FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
HOW CAN ONE ACCESS TO PSYCHOTHERAPY ON THE NETHERLANDS?
There are two main categories of psychological monitoring in the Netherlands:
First line (short duration attendance)
Second line (specialised attendance shorter or longer duration).
In the Mental Health Clinic Isabel Henriques, we work with psychotherapy, which is a second line attendance category, a specialised treatment.
According to your health plan, your treatment will be reimbursed totally or not. In case your health plan only reimburses part of the treatment, the patient will have to pay the remaining part. Contact your insurance to find out what is the percentage they cover.
HOW MUCH DOES THE TREATMENT COST?
Although the health insurance covers a partial or complete part of the treatment, there is a fixed value that you will have to pay directly to your insurance company, the so called “eigen risico”, a value that varies from year to year and that is set by the Dutch government and mandatory for all people that use any kind of specialised health treatment.
Mental Health Clinic follows the listed prices of each insurance company, not knowing a priori what is the price of each session of your treatment. Within this payment not only the direct time of sessions will be included, but also any kind of time spent with the patient outside sessions, such as: e-mails, phone calls, case supervision and discussion, sessions preparation, study and research, reports, and so on.
The invoice will be sent to your house at the end of the treatment or after one year and you should then send that invoice to your insurer.
You may also schedule appointments through the private practice according to our own prices.
WHAT IT TAKES TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT?
In order to schedule your first appointment we will need the following documentation:
Letter of referral (verwijsbrief) to Psychology (psychotherapie - gespecialiseerde GGZ). This should be asked to your family doctor (GP - huisarts). A correct referral letter includes a referral to “SGGZ” (specialized mental healthcare), with a clear question of help and undersigned with autograph and the personal AGB-code of the specialist
Health insurance card (if applicable) Identity card/passport
Questionnaires for a preliminary psychological evaluation. These will be sent by e-mail at the time of confirmation of your first appointment so you can bring them with you on the first session.
HOW LONG LASTS EACH SESSION?
Individual Psychotherapy sessions last for 50 minutes;
Couple's Therapy and Family Therapy sessions last for 1 hour and 20 minutes.
The sessions' frequency should be discussed with your psychologist.
In case of absence without previous warning of at least 24 hours before the time of the session, it will be charged as usual.
